Her Lips Are Copper Wire (A Poem from Cane by Jean Toomer) whisper of yellow globes gleaming on lamp-posts that sway like bootleg licker drinkers in the fog and let your breath be moist against me like bright beads on yellow globes telephone the power-house that the main wires are insulate (her words play softly up and down dewy corridors of billboards) then with your tongue remove the tape and press your lips to mine till they are incandescent
2.
Arrivals 03:30
I drove all through the night to see the screen at newark light when your flight arrived so I could look into your eyes at last I meet you again at last I’ve been waiting for you since the end of last time around I waited for your plane to touch down a kiss incandescent changes everything in one second I was waiting in the terminal trembling I was waiting for that one precious thing
3.
your image sunk into my mind sends twisted and tangled shivers down my spine you say that you're mine but all I can do is pine pine for you while you're on the other side of the atlantic and it's true my dear it's quite romantic but I'm frantic and tired of this transatlantic distance from you so far from you so come home come home to me
4.
Only 03:40
you’re the only one for me I see that clearly when you’re near me so now please don’t steer me away you’ve got the one and only disposition that I miss and only you can see through me when I only halfheartedly exist a kiss on my cheek makes me weak and question everything the theoretical seems so vain when you make me feel so sane it’s driving me insane the subtle words that turn my world upside down you’ve got me spinning round tumble down into oblivion just to see you again I’ll leave my world behind to exist only in your eyes synchronicity belies the fate that drives you to me and I’m truly sucked in happily trapped I crossed the map blue ink on the page can’t keep me away transatlantic flight for one one way bound for the sun transatlantic flight for one one way bound for the sun for the sun
5.
Departures 03:24
we peel off the titles and hold hands into the future don’t let go of me just let me breathe in your skin again swept away by fate lovesick mistake what’s right won’t let my soul rest
6.
Aeroplane 05:24
I’ve been taken away from where I want to stay by an aeroplane and a name stamped into a passport tells me time is too too short our time is too too short dozing off in flight I thought I had it right but last night may have been the last sight I’ll have of you this can’t be true this can’t be adieu what about those things you said maybe they were better off in your head maybe I’d be better off dead maybe I’d be better off if I hadn’t let you in under my skin I’m wearing thin like the oxygen I’m breathing and maybe you were merely teasing when you offered your heart maybe you were merely pleasing my hopeful heart you have your doubts and you have your reservations I highly doubt that I have the patience to wait for chance to wait for you to wait for chance to wait on you but maybe it’s just the recycled air and staring at the sun and lacking oxygen on this slow flight home whatever home means anymore
7.
Jennie 04:04
jennie where did you go? jennie come home I miss you I miss you I miss you so jennie come home you’ve got my world on your side and you’re always on my mind I choose to look in front instead of always behind synchronicity’s greatest gift was bringing you to me it’s true to me you’ll always be deep inside and dear to me
8.
Walls 05:08
my heart is dizzy with reality setting in anxiety creeping up in nausea deep within I want to write a song for you something to break through the walls you’ve built up deep inside of you but you don’t want me to I know you’re scared but that’s no way to be I know you’re scared when you look across at me and think about a life together I know you think only of stormy weather but I want to be caught in the rain with you and I promise at least a sunny day or two I know you’re scared but I am too so let me in and let your walls down just let your walls down and I’ll do the same my heart is dizzy with reality setting in anxiety creeping up in nausea deep within I want to write a song for you something to break through the walls you’ve built up deep inside of you but you don’t want me to you let your walls trap you in you let your walls cause the end you had your walls up but you couldn’t even see you had your walls up built up way up in front of me you couldn’t see the walls you’d built up in front of me
9.
You Said 05:55
you laid your head next to mine every night you said you’re mine until the end of time you said you knew me in the life before you said you’d see me soon as I walked out that door you said a lot of things but I heard more you laid your head next to mine every night you said you’re mine until the end of time you said you knew me in the life before you said you’d see me soon as I walked out that door except you can’t keep the promises you've made I’ve heard the same excuse before and you knew as well as I do it was adieu for me and you when I walked out that door
10.
Incandescent 05:26
incandescent lets me see incandescent dissolves reality incandescent your breath against me incandescent burns what used to be to the ground and spreads the ashes all around lets me melt inside of you lets me start anew reborn unformed by the glare of fluorescent stares incandescent a lone light shines on through the night another word for the love I’ve sought throughout my life like a moth is drawn to light I was drawn into your life and I thought this time around I had it right I had it right but sometimes the light is not what it seems fluorescent only incandescent in your dreams and when you wake you see the mistake that you’ve made so come on boy just act your age all the world’s a stage for you don’t waste your youth on falling in love on being patient for a dove looks can be deceiving and false promises can be thieving of your precious time so just get it right next time around incandescent a lone light shines on through the night another word for the love I’ve sought throughout my life like a moth is drawn to light I was drawn into your life and I thought this time around I had it right I had it right

about

43:23

Over a year and a half in the making, Incandescent is a concept album about an unusual relationship Michael O'Shea (the musician/producer behind Kinjac) had with a Swedish girl that led him to move to Stockholm for the summer of 2010. Its chronological narrative traces the arc of this relationship from beginning to end. The synchronistic and unlikely beginnings, a transatlantic journey before they had met in person, a blissful summer in love, the heartbreaking end caused by international and emotional walls, and his recovery from depression in recognizing the sublimely cyclical nature of the human search for love—for the incandescent.

The album was written, recorded, mixed and mastered by Michael O'Shea and released on his label Solotechne Records. The album was finished at his studio in his native Asheville, NC, but much of the writing of this album, and his previous release No. 7, took place in Stockholm, Sweden. Acts with a similar sound to Kinjac are Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Caribou, Massive Attack, Postal Service, Muse, Saul Williams, Sufjan Stevens, and Brazilian Girls.
